The promotional machine is spinning up over at AMC now that the shoot is back in session. Today they posted a really interesting Q&A with prop master John Sanders, the man responsible for Rick’s Python, Michonne’s katana (custom!), and Daryl’s crossbow.

Q: As the guy in charge of all the props, what are some staples that bear your mark?

A: The new crossbow for Daryl — I altered that one for the show. I took Norman [Reedus] to a bow range for him to shoot. I was kind of showing off with the guys there, and I was showing him some of the top-end crossbows. I let him shoot the Stryker 380, and once he shot that he had me take pictures of him and had me send them to the producers, and immediately it got in the works that we wanted him to have it. Michonne’s sword I actually helped design between Season 2 and Season 3. I used some friends of mine at United Cutlery to help me. I knew it was a huge piece in the show, so I wanted to make something really iconic and add some elements that are really closer to my heart. The triple goddess and the trinity of life; those things are important to me in my life, and close to my wife.

Who’s hitting up Wizard World in Philadelphia (May 30-June2)?! Unfortunately, we can’t make it out in person (don’t worry—Norman Reedus, Michael Rooker, and Jon Bernthal will be repping the TWD family) but we’re going to be there in spirit with the next Walking Dead #1 variant cover in our Wizard World series. The Philly cover is brought to you by Julian Totino Tedesco and I love it. I’m digging these #1 variants. Press release after the pic!

Tedesco will be on hand at the Pennsylvania Convention Center throughout the event to sign copies of the limited-edition comic, produced in extremely limited quantities and available to fans only while supplies last.

Hey all. I wanted to drop in a reminder to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook (and don’t hide us either—I know your tricks). Why? We’re going to ramp up our giveaways and contests. We’ll be giving away shirts, books, signed books, stickers, bracelets, pins, all sorts of stuff, it depends on how big the event is. The idea is to do this AT LEAST every two weeks. The next chance to win a shirt will be next Wednesday (May 22nd). We’ll also be hooking up our Facebook fans when he hit 5k likes (10k, 15k, 20k and so on); Twitter fans when he hit 40k followers (50k, 75k, 100k, etc). We’ll also be having a weekend challenge once a month here on the site, where you’ll have to complete a task and compete in some ridiculous competition. If there’s something you think would be fun, put it in the comments. And keep your eyes on Facebook, Twitter, and here. We’ll be doing random contest and giveaways from time to time as well!

Here’s our Facebook Page. If you “Liked” our page before April, please visit again, we launched a new one that we’re in total control of.
Here’s our Twitter Page. Same awesome account as always, but NOT the one run by our partners over at AMC. @WalkingDead_AMC is for the show only. And well worth following in its own right.

Holy Bon Jovi, San Diego Comic-Con is coming up faster than I’d like to think. Tickets for Comic-Con edition of The Walking Dead Escape (July 19th and 20th) went on sale a while ago, but every so often we release a block of Walker tickets and they’re selling quick. I wanted to make a post where you can ask questions about the event and also to remind you to lock in your tickets as soon as you can.

There are different ticket types: you can run the course (you don’t have to be a super athlete, you can jog/walk the course at your own pace, it winds around so much and the waves all get mixed up so no one notices or even cares), you can be a zombie and stalk the course, or you can just be a spectator—show up, take in the carnage, hit the after party, and buy some merch (hint hint).

Tickets for the “Hero” zombie makeup are already sold out, and it’s no surprise. Here’s one of the day’s first hero makeup jobs from Philly:

Tickets for regular Walkers will sell out as well, so get your tickets for the Comic-Con Escape HERE.
Learn more about the event HERE.

Follow event details on Twitter at @TWDEscape.
If you’re a Facebook person we have a page just for the event right here.

Recently, Sean Patrick Flannery (Norman Reedus’ Boondock costar) said that Daryl was basically The Fonz from TV’s The Happy Days. He’s not the only one to see similarities between The Walking Dead’s resident bad ass and the Henry Winkler sitcom classic. Many people have talked about how they’re both “bad boys,” they’re both minor characters who’ve risen to fan-favorite status, and they’re both renowned for their motorcycles and sweet water skiing abilities. Ok maybe not the water skiing. At least not YET (season 7 spoiler). Anyway, this got me thinking, what would Daryl actually look like as the Fonz? What if other TWD characters were in classic sitcoms..?

Here’s Daryl in classic Fonz mode:

And of course Rick would be TV’s moralizing sheriff Andy Griffith:

But I guess that would make Shane… bumbling deputy Barney Fife?

Dale has to be Wilson from Home Improvement, the older, wisdom-dispensing moral compass. In a bucket hat:

And last, if we’ve got Daryl, we’ve got to have Merle. He’d fit right in as TV’s original bigot, Archie Bunker from All in the Family:

That’s it for round 1. Who would you guys place in round 2?

The Walking Dead issue 110 is in stores (as you should know—ahem) and reviews are out.

“Fans may see this issue as just another actionless issue that doesn’t give you any shock and awe, but it is this type of issue that truly broadens the scope of the book past all the other ‘zombie’ books that litter the racks… This is another well written tale that will become a stepping stone for a grander finale, it may leave the ‘action junkie’ in all of us a little depressed. But, all you have to do is look at the cover of June’s issue #111 to get that adrenaline pumping once more!” That’s from the guys over at Cosmic Book News.
They’re right about issue 111, that cover is wicked.

“Issue #110 is perfect; delicious The Walking Dead. Classic tropes from the series stand out unabashedly and because of it, we get a pretty wonderful comic book. Rick Grimes couldn’t have done better himself.” 5/5 from TheComicBastards.
We are blushing, guys. And who knew Rick Grimes was a comic writer?!

“It’s rarely a good idea to promise readers a sword fight on a cover and not deliver, particularly in a book like The Walking Dead where such a thing would be a novelty. Sadly, issue #110 does not involve a high-octane sword battle between Michonne and Ezekiel like the cover suggests. But it’s a testament to the quality of this issue that it remains so engaging despite that blatant case of false advertising.” 8.5, GREAT, from Jesse Schedeen at IGN.
Was the cover a BIT of a tease? Maybe. But it wasn’t like there was blood flying through the air. And a cover of Michonne smiling would be the weirdest cover ever.

“If you miss your daily dose of zombies on Sundays, then ‘The Walking Dead’ #110 is the relief you need. The series continues to do very well because of its spot-on characterizations and terrific artwork. Nothing is ever simple in the zombie apocalypse, especially when it’s the humans you have to worry about.” That’s from MTV Geek.
It always comes back the man’s inhumanity to man, doesn’t it?

This last review is interesting. It’s from someone that doesn’t read the comic and has only checked out an issue once. How crazy is that? Not that he doesn’t read it, just that he decided to review an issue in the middle of a story arc. “The artwork from Charlie Adlard seems to be exactly the same as a year or so ago, when I tried to read a copy, and I like it a lot… The Walking Dead #110 is an interesting comic, but perhaps I may have been better starting with a graphic novel or two. That being said, I’ll be back to read the next issue.” -Rod Bell (aka Villordsutch) at FlickeringMyth.com.
We’ve got him. He’s coming back for more. Rod, you gotta start at the beginning of an arc. Or at the VERY beginning. Haha. It’s daunting but worth it.

Have issue 110? Let's talk! Don't have issue 110? GO BUY IT. Read More >

The Walking Dead issue 110 is out and your eyeballs are on it! Jesus managed to stop Kal from telling the Saviors about Dwight. (Or did he? Kal seemed to flip his story pretty fast…) Eugene has qualms about making ammo to kill the Saviors. Shiva almost ate Michonne. Ezekiel continued to be a lovable kook. Michonne showed what little patience she has for theatrics. And Ezekiel came clean about his past.

What did you think?

How badass was Jesus catching that spear and then snapping it half? Irresponsible waste of resources? Yes. Awesome? YES.
Do we really think Kal won’t go to Negan? Or was he just placating Jesus?
Will Ezekiel be murdered by PETA for keeping Shiva in a 5′x5′ cage?
Is Eugene going to stop making ammo because he’s a hippie? Never trust a mullet.
Is that romance I smell in the air between Ezekiel and Michonne?
How awesome is Ian in Letter Hacks for guessing Ezekiel’s pre-apocalypse job? Anyone else guess that TWO issues ago?
